Arvidsson was spotted as the first player to arrive at Rogers Place for yesterday's game. The Oilers signed him as a scoring forward, but he hadn't found a way to break through before last night. He's showing up early, clearly putting in the work and listening to the coaching staff, and last night it paid off with three assists.
The 31 year old Swedish forward has been a productive scoring forward for his entire career, but like the rest of the Oilers roster, just got off to a slow start. Arvidsson was limited to only 18 games with the Los Angeles Kings last season due to injury, so it may take some time for him to find his groove. Oilers fans certainly will love to see him putting in the work to improve early on.
Considering that many players have a slow start after such a significant injury, it may be a reason they got him at a bargain contract of only $4M for two seasons. Arvidsson's career best years have seen him score over 30 goals and 60 points, and if he remains with Leon Draisaitl all year and develops some chemistry, he could easily surpass those offensive totals.
The Oilers current second line of Podkolzin, Draisaitl, and Arvidsson has a chance to be a great mix of each player can play to their roles. If each player is showing up and putting in the work like Arvidsson clearly is, they could be one of the best second lines in the entire NHL.
