BREAKING: Atlanta Set to Get Another NHL Team, Under One Condition?
As discussions surrounding the Coyotes' future persist, relocation options such as Houston, Salt Lake City, and Kansas City have been considered. However, a new possibility has emerged in the form of Atlanta.
Insider Elliotte Friedman discloses that the NHL is seriously contemplating Alpharetta, a suburb of Atlanta, as a potential new destination for the Coyotes. The key requirement for this relocation is the construction of a suitable arena in Alpharetta.
Elliotte on NHL expansion or relocation:
There's a lot of momentum for Atlanta. The word here is if that rink can be built in Alpharetta. That is very real.
Although this move would not bring back the Atlanta Thrashers, it would reintroduce NHL hockey to Georgia, a state that previously had unsuccessful encounters with the Flames and the Thrashers. The NHL recognizes the potential within Atlanta's market.
Critics argue that instead of opting for Alpharetta, the league should prioritize the construction of a stadium within the heart of Atlanta itself. This approach would better engage the diverse population of the city and align with the NHL's objective of expanding the game.
