This has derailed all of the hype and optimism that fans were hoping to see, as the bulk of the team from last year was brought back for another shot at the Stanley Cup.
Their fortunes may change as roster changes are on the horizon, with several players on the shelf due to injuries. Oilers forward Connor Brown and Mattias Janmark will be out of the lineup for an uncertain amount of time.
The Oilers have decided to call up Raphael Lavoie and recently signed PTO (Professional Tryout) and third-time Oiler Sam Gagner.
Lavoie, who was uncertain whether he would crack the lineup this year and was potentially traded before the season began, was sent back to the Bakersfield Condors to wait for his turn to join the Oilers. During his time with the Condors, he has scored 47 goals and 41 assists in 141 games.
Oilers fans will be applauding when Sam Gagner takes to the ice, as he makes his comeback to the team for the third time. He, along with Adam Erne, both signed PTO contracts with the team, and it seems that Gagner has won. Erne was placed on waivers, and he cleared them yesterday, where he will report to the Condors moving forward.
These roster moves, along with the pressing need to improve their 2-6-1 record, will hopefully spur changes within the roster and start translating into wins.
