BREAKING: Team Releases Player After Homophobic Tweets Sent Out
Hockey has surpassed many expectations over the past several years to boost the popularity of the sport and add diversity.
Numerous hockey leagues are still working to broaden their representation of all populations, particularly the LGTBQ community. Unfortunately, everything good has its negative backlash.
The Columbus Blue Jackets' ECHL affiliate Kalamazoo Wings made the decision to paint their rink the colours of the pride flag and schedule a game there.
In their debut game on painted ice, the Kalamazoo Wings faced the Peoria Rivermen, the St. Louis Blues affiliate. Louie Rowe, a forward for the Blues, tweeted something completely unnecessary after the game:
I knew the Kwings were soft but I didn't know they were gay, trans and soft.
The player has been removed from the team until further notice.
