The countdown is underway for all NHL teams as they prepare to kick off their new season with training camp commencing tomorrow, including physical evaluations.

The Oilers and their fans are eagerly anticipating this season, driven by a sense of unfinished business following their elimination from the second round last year at the hands of the Vegas Golden Knights.

Over the summer, General Manager Ken Holland made subtle adjustments to bolster the team while maintaining its core. Fast forward to September, and 20 out of the 23 players from last year's roster have joined the Oilers for training camp.

Jim Matheson of Postmedia broke the news tonight, revealing the Oilers' intentions regarding the PTO signing of Sam Gagner.

Some fans question the necessity of this signing, believing it may not address the Oilers' current needs. Gagner's career has spanned from 2007 to 2023.

Selected by the Oilers as the 6th overall pick in the first round of the 2007 draft, this marks his third stint with the Oilers, having spent nine years of his career with the team. Throughout his career, he has participated in 1015 games, scoring 192 goals and providing 327 assists, accumulating a total of 519 points.

It remains to be seen whether he will secure a spot on the team's roster.
