As the Chicago Blackhawks' rising star and the top pick of the 2023 NHL Draft, Connor Bedard understands the immense anticipation surrounding his entry into the league. Despite the buzz, Bedard remains committed to honing all aspects of his game, including his renowned shot. In his pursuit of improvement, he's turning to a seasoned veteran for inspiration - none other than Washington Capitals' captain, Alex Ovechkin.

During his visit to the NHLPA Rookie Showcase at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, Bedard emphasized his eagerness to learn from the best. He's already gained recognition for his powerful snapshot, a skill he has refined over time.

Bedard's admiration for Ovechkin extends beyond technique. He also shares his prediction on Ovechkin's journey to surpass Wayne Gretzky's legendary all-time goals record. Ovechkin's current tally of 822 goals places him 73 goals away from breaking the record.

"I think he gets it. Two years I give him, but yeah, it's pretty crazy that he's scored that many goals," Bedard shared. "I mean, just to kind of be watching it in the past couple years, obviously got 800, and then you know, passed Howe and everything, so it's just pretty cool to see. If he breaks it, it's special for the whole game."

As Bedard prepares for his rookie campaign, he draws motivation from Ovechkin's achievements and contributions to the sport. The young star's dedication to learning and evolving his game underscores the promising impact he could have on the NHL.
