The Edmonton Oilers have talent that is growing in the minors, while Stuart Skinner is one of these rookies who have come into their own, not everyone's story is so simple.

Edmonton's 2nd round draft pick in 2019, Raphael Lavoie may have a different path to the NHL.

Lavoie's career had a setback after the knee injury he had suffered the prior season and had to re-learn his game along the way, as he recovered.

"I couldn't walk until June.I didn't get on the ice until August. I'd never had a major injury (knee) before and it was like I had to re-learn things. It was hard coming in November and trying to catch up to the game after not playing in eight months. But I feel good now." Lavoie

Lavoie is a big two-way Center, who has had a problem with maintaining consistency in his game and I'm afraid the knee injury hasn't helped his case.

The young Center has spent the majority of his entry-level contract in Bakersfield, as he looks to break into an NHL, despite having some serious competition, playing alongside Xavier Bourgalt and Carter Savoie.

It was projected that he'd be a full-time NHL player by 2022-2023 and with his recovery coming to an end, he should look to use all the tools available to him to make it happen.

A true goal-scorer, he owns tremendous size and strength, skating ability (displaying both quickness and long speed) and a powerful shot. He has a scoring mentality at all times. Lacks consistency in a major way and needs to improve his play in the defensive zone greatly in order to become an impact NHLer. Needs to fill out.
