It always puts a smile on my face when I hear a career AHLer gets his NHL debut.
Vincent Desharnais has been called up From the AHL Bakersfield Condors and will begin his NHL debut when the Edmonton Oilers play against the Anaheim Ducks.
With a height of 6 feet 6 inches and a weight of 215 pounds, the 26-year-old defenseman looks to make an impact with the parent club. The Oilers have struggled with their defense corps. They hope that Desharnais can provide the boost they need.
He is that shutdown type of defenseman that will face some of the best skaters, he's also quite familiar with Head coach Jay Woodcroft as he spent four years with him while playing for the Condors.
The Oilers selected him in the seventh round, 183rd overall, in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. The game will begin at 10 p.m. tonight. On January 13th, the Oilers will continue their road trip against the San Jose Sharks.
