People often make mistakes often in their careers and sometimes, they can contribute to an avalanche of loss, as it happened last night.
Here you can see Ryan McLeod attempted a pass to Darnell Nurse and Mitch Marner robbed and the takeaway resulted in a Marner goal. It's a bad deal all around for a rookie trying to make an impact on the ice.
After the tough loss, the team sent out Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Evander Kane to speak instead of Ryan Mcleod and Vincent Desharnais.
McLeod and Desharnais both had a rough game last night, so the team insisted on protecting their young guys from media criticism to have the team bear the brunt of the mistakes, instead of directly placing blame on the rookies.
This is what a team should do while rookies are developing your organization and the Oilers are smarter for it, knowing that the team should be there to mitigate damage when possible.
McLeod and Desharnais are not the fall guys here, and the trust here will pay off long-term.
