The first of three that got named to the All-star competition was no one other than Matty Beniers, a rookie for the Seattle Kraken who has made an immediate impact on the success of the Kraken this year. The Kraken are currently tied for first in their division with the Vegas Golden Knights and are sitting at 10th place in the league. As of right now Beniers is third in team scoring with a stat line of 17-19-36 in 47 GP. He also leads rookies in goals and points.
The second rookie to get named to go was Logan Thompson of the Vegas Golden Knights. Thompson has been the backbone for the Knights, with the injury to Robin Lehner being sever, after having shoulder surgery in the offseason and not being able to play this year, Thompson got the opportunity to be the starting goalie and he has run with it. not only having a record of 19-13-2 with a 2.71 GAA and a .912 SV%, but also leading all rookies in wins and most games played in the 2022-23 season.
And last but not least Edmonton Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner who will be the first Oilers All-Star goalie in more than 20 years. Skinner 24 has gotten the opportunity to show what he can do, due to the subpar play of recently acquired goalie Jack Campbell. Oilers rookie goalie has a record of 13-10-3 on the season and a 2.92 GAA and .914 SV%, which is a huge reason the team is in a playoff spot as of now.
This will also be the first time in NHL history that two rookie goaltenders participate in the same All-Star game.
