Gary Bettman Issues a Strict Warning to All 32 NHL Teams
Gary Bettman and the NHL delivered a warning to all 32 teams this morning in an effort to persuade them not to move specific players before the NHL trade deadline on March 3.
The NHL will look into any team that makes an inappropriate deal involving a player who is injured.
The NHL released a memo to teams this morning saying that it will "closely scrutinize" trades where injured players are acquired with the intent of keeping them on LTIR until the playoffs.
This could impact the market for players like Nyquist, Monahan, Henrique, etc.
While the NHL isn't outright banning any such moves, it says it will investigate transactions to see if they constitute circumvention of the CBA.
This serves as a warning to teams who choose to activate the player for the playoffs, which has no influence on cap hits, while using the long-term injury reserve loophole during the regular season.
