Last month Matt Berlin was one of the most famous people in Edmonton, despite the West Edmonton Mall trying to steal the spotlight, but nothing could over hype what Berlin accomplished on the weekend vs the Blackhawks.

Late into the game the Oilers were preparing to swap goalies and put Berlin in net. Harnarayan Singh and Louie DeBrusk have us a breakdown of what happened leading up to this moment for Berlin. He is a 25-year old goaltender that plays for one of the most highly decorated University in North America, the Alberta Golden Bears.

Berlin is a recognizable name for junior hockey fans in the West. Before his time in the Western League, Berlin grew up playing with the South Side Athletic Club which is a popular spot Oilers fans would know. Berlin was on the famous U15 AAA team that had Tyler Benson, James Hamblin, and Stuart Skinner who was the reason Berlin got the opportunity he did.

Berlin played as the backup in those days to Stuart Skinner. He would go on to play 11 games and had a 2.59 GAA and a .887 SV%. This would help Berlin get drafted 148th overall in the WHL by the Spokane Chiefs.

Berlin's performances during his time in the WHL earned him his spot on the team with the University of Albert. During his career Berlin has played along the likes of Kailer Yamamoto, Ethan Bear, Matt Barzal, Peyton Krebs, Stuart Skinner, and Tyler Benson and he can now say that he also has an NHL game to his name.
