It's hard to believe it's been one year since the tragic accident that costed the life of a young 16 year-old hockey player named Teddy Balkind. Balkind passed away after a player accidentally collided with him and was took a skate blade the neck during a junior varsity game for St Luke's.
The game was stopped and paramedics were called, Balkind unfortunately didn't survive. However the hockey world never forgot Balkind and hockey players all over the world including myself put a hockey stick on their front porches to honour the young boy.
Today marks one year since it happened and Balkind's death has made changes around the world to enforce neck guard rules and improvements to the equipment to hopefully prevent any more players to have the same unfortunate fate.
With that said Oilers Daily would like to take a moment to give our sincerest condolences to the Balkind family and let them know we won't ever forget Teddy, may he rest in peace.
