Maple Leafs Make Controversial Decision on Pride Night
The Toronto Maple Leafs will be among several other teams participating in the celebration of the LGBTQ+ community during their annual Pride Night game against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight. However, the team will not be sporting special Pride-themed jerseys during their warm-up as they have always kept to their regular attire.
Nevertheless, the Maple Leafs will demonstrate their support by donning unique helmet decals throughout the game and airing messages promoting the LGBTQ+ community on the arena video screen during stoppages in play. Since 2017, the team has been actively involved in Pride Night celebrations. This year, head coach Sheldon Keefe and defenseman Morgan Rielly expressed their support by wearing rainbow-themed t-shirts during media availability in the morning.
Morgan Rielly emphasized that actions speak louder than words, and clothing, stating that the team's support goes beyond just wearing special jerseys.
