In 2015, as we all know, McDavid was drafted by the Oilers in one of the most highly anticipated drafts in many years. Since then, he has been nothing short of a "Miracle on Ice."
It's safe to say that the Oilers' fanbase has been privileged to witness his development and growth as he continues to elevate his game. At the 2023 NHL Awards, McDavid added four more trophies to his collection, including the Rocket Richard and another Hart.
During the press conference following the awards ceremony, he spoke to the media and explained how his five-year-old self would have been disappointed if he took his success for granted.
His statistics as an Oiler and an NHL player are simply outstanding and mind-blowing. He has played 569 games, scoring 303 goals and providing 547 assists for 850 points. He boasts a +114 rating, with 219 penalty minutes, 71 power-play goals, and 289 power-play points. Additionally, he has contributed 64 game-winning goals.
His playoff stats are equally impressive. In 49 games, McDavid has scored 29 goals and recorded 46 assists, accumulating 75 points while maintaining a +16 rating. He has also contributed 30 power-play points.
McDavid also delivered a resounding endorsement of the city of Edmonton, describing it as a historic place to play and expressing his privilege to perform in front of passionate fans.
The Oilers will remain competitive for the Stanley Cup if General Manager Ken Holland can find players who complement McDavid's playoff performance. Perhaps one day, they will raise their sixth Cup with McDavid proudly holding it.
