Multiple Edmonton Oilers slotted in for Team Canada Olympic roster
One of the best announcements by Bettman earlier today was that best on best world hockey would be returning, due to the NHL rescinding its rule that any players in the NHL could not play on the world stage. With that revelation, people have been excitedly looking forward to what those rosters could look like for the tournaments.
Looking at the list, it's a no-brainer to see some of these guys on here. Guys like Mcdavid and Crosby will be perennially linked with Canadian hockey, and are obvious choices for a spot.
Some of these players are very recent additions however, if they have happened to impress over the duration of the season. Here's a list of candidates from after last season, and it's interesting to see how names have changed in such a short time.
The first thing that is very obvious is the fact that not a single goalie that was voted in last year was voted in this year. Despite the fact that Jarry has played better than Levi this year, it's interesting to see that Levi is more popular than Jarry. The other two I do agree with as both Hill and Skinner have been phenomenal, and that would be an amazing goalie tandem even on the world stage.
It's cool to see other players whose play has commanded the respect they deserve, like Hyman, Bouchard and Reinhart. These players all improved upon already impressive seasons last year, and have all earned their spot in the public eye.
This Team Canada team would be amazing to watch in the Olympics, and having NHL clear players to play in best on best tournaments again is a win for every hockey fan.
