Oilers Forward Optimistic for a More Successful Season
With the summer months gradually passing and the training camp on the horizon within the next two months, the Oilers are making final adjustments to their offseason preparations, gearing up for the upcoming battles. Among the players hoping for improved performances this year is Dylan Holloway.
Holloway, a 21-year-old left winger, was drafted in the first round, 14th overall, in the 2020 entry draft. Standing at 6 feet one inch and weighing 203 pounds, he has been projected as a top-nine, if not a top-six, forward.
During his rookie season, management and the coaches had high expectations for Holloway, believing he could make a direct impact on the Oilers' lineup and become an integral part of their offence.
Unfortunately, he suffered an injury last year that sidelined him for several games, and it wasn't until the 17th game of the season that he scored his first goal.
Fast forward to today, Holloway is determined to make a stronger impact this season. While guest coaching at the Oilers hockey school, he shared his thoughts, saying,
"I think there's a lot to learn from last year for sure.
The biggest thing for me is to ensure I give my best effort every single night. As a young player, you can't afford to take a night off. You have to compete for a spot and work hard to keep it; that's the most challenging part."
He continued,
"This year, I have more confidence, having learned a lot from last season. I'm excited for the upcoming season."
As for the Oilers organization, the departures of Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin have opened up roster spots, presenting opportunities for a few players to secure full-time positions. Holloway is poised to be one of them and is eager to demonstrate the potential the team saw in him when they drafted him in 2020.
