Oilers could see potential windfall with the salary cap rising?

Throughout the season and into the playoffs, it's widely reported by the NHL that the salary cap will only be rising by $1,000,000 next season.

Many general managers throughout the league have been dealing with numerous ways to help create cap space which includes bankrolling with other teams to help with trading by taking a percentage of salary, putting players on LTIR to get cap relief even taking on bad contracts from other teams that can be used as LTIR.

It appears that this is about to change. In exciting news for hockey fans and especially the loyal supporters of the Edmonton Oilers, insider Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff.com has shared an intriguing prediction. Seravalli suggests that the NHL salary cap experience a significant boost next season, potentially increasing by an estimated 3-4 million dollars.

With this potential boost and the fact that the Oilers have nine restricted and unrestricted free agents going into next season, general manager Ken Holland may find himself with up to almost $9 million in cap space.

These potential savings will be vital for him to either re-sign certain players he'd like to keep including defenseman Evan Bouchard and also look at the free agent market to acquire more depth players to help him round out the lineup.

While it remains how this speculation will materialize, the prospect of a higher salary cap has undoubtedly piqued the interest of Oilers fans and hockey enthusiasts alike.
