Oilers in Cap Crunch; Moves Need to be Made

The Edmonton Oilers are in a cap crunch. They need to sign Evan Bouchard, Ryan McLeod, and get a 4C all at the same time. But they only have $5,620,000 in cap room.

The answer is you can't. Evan Bouchard and Ryan McLeod will most likely sign team friendly deals just for this year, because next season Edmonton has a little over $18 million in cap and you can assure them a bigger contract. So the problem really isn't with them.

The problem is the 4C. After re-signing McLeod and Bouchard you will have no money left to sign anyone else.

However, you have arguably the teams top prospect Xavier Bourgault ready to go.

Bourgault is 20 years old and it's about time they bring him up. Xavier had 75 points in 43 games in 2021 for the Shawinigan Cataractes. That was enough for Edmonton to bring him up to Bakersfield and he had 13 goals and 21 assists, adding up to 34 points in 62 games.

He transitioned quite nicely and deserves a chance up in the NHL, especially because he is getting older.
