In the NHL, there comes a point in some players' careers where they need to explore other options to extend their time in the league. This may be due to the team having an excess of talent and limited space on the main roster, or the player not meeting the expectations of the coaching staff and general manager, prompting a need for a change of scenery.

Recently, the Oilers experienced this situation when Tyler Benson, the 32nd overall pick in the 2016 entry draft, decided to part ways with the organization and join the Golden Knights. Benson, a 25-year-old left winger standing at six feet tall and weighing 190 pounds, has only played 38 games in the NHL.

During this time, he managed to score one goal and two assists, totalling three points while maintaining a -6 plus/minus rating. Additionally, he accumulated 18 penalty minutes.

Considering his high draft position in the second round, better statistics were expected from Benson. However, he has spent three seasons with the Bakersfield Condors and has shown a decline in performance each year.

As he embarks on his career with the Golden Knights, Benson will initially play for the Silver Knights of Henderson, their AHL affiliate.
