Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are two of the biggest stars in the NHL for the Edmonton Oilers.

The bad news is that Leon Draisaitl might be sidelined from the World Cup of Hockey in 2026.

Due to the genius style thinking of the NHL, the World Cup of Hockey is limited to four opponents. They are Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the United States.

The NHL will exclude Czechia, Germany, Slovakia, and Russia. By allowing Gary Bettman and Bill Daly to make it impossible for Draisaitl to play, they may basically force him to stay at home.

imagine having a World Cup of hockey and leon draisaitl is just twiddling his thumbs bc he's not from canada america finland or sweden

Jeff Marek and Elliot Friedman first reported on the plan on the latest 32 Thoughts podcast.

«It sounds like it is going to be a weeklong event [in February 2025],» Friedman reported. «I think the biggest question now is four teams or six.

«Russia, due to geopolitics, they are not going to be there If it's four [teams], I think it's Canada, USA, Sweden, and Finland.»

Multiple NHL superstars are being restricted from worldwide exposure, including Leon Draisaitl, Moritz Seider, and Tim Stuztle.

This again, is another example of the NHL shooting itself in the foot, despite all claims they're trying to grow the game.
