Penguins allow historic embarrassing own-goal

The Penguins have been a disappointing team all season. Despite trading for Erik Karlsson and trying to make another push for the playoffs in the final years of Crosby and Malkin, the Penguins find themselves second last in their division. Last night against Arizona, the Penguins made an embarrassing mistake that kind of sums up how their whole season is going.

Kris Letang had the puck in the Penguins zone with a delayed penalty and the net empty, tried to make a pass to Malkin that only ended up in their own net.

It's a classic mistake to make in hockey, and happens so rarely in hockey at all, nevermind the NHL. The bad pass from Letang, and a weak touch from Malkin end up being the two critical mistakes that lead to the brutal own goal.

According to Elliotte Friedman and the Arizona Coyotes, the team actually became the first ever to score a powerplay goal without recording a powerplay shot in the game.

The Penguins went on to lose the game by a score of 5-2 to the Coyotes. If they continue to lose these winnable games and fall in the standings, the team may actually look to sell assets at this year's deadline - most notably including forward Jake Guentzel who has been linked to the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks in a trade.
