Philip Broberg is on the trade block..
The Edmonton Oilers are facing a challenge with the salary cap, which has only increased by $1 million for the upcoming season.
As a result, they need to make some strategic moves to achieve their team goals, including potentially trading one of their players.
As the Oilers explore the market for a top-six winger and a top-4 D, some chatter they've made Broberg available if the right circumstances present themselves, beyond trying to clear out some $.
I don't think trading Broberg in such a short time is right but only way Oilers can get help now is by moving him
The latest player to hit the trade block is Philip Broberg, who was selected as the 8th overall pick four years ago.
To ensure they have the budget for future acquisitions, the Oilers may need to consider moving other players such as Kailer Yamamoto and Warren Foegele, in addition to Broberg.
Despite being just 21 years old, Broberg has not yet reached his full potential, partly because he has been playing less than 13 minutes per game.
Although he was held pointless in nine post-season games, he still has the potential to be a 2nd pairing defenseman.
It might be in Broberg's best interest to join a team with a focus on developing young players, such as the Chicago team.
