Player safety reveals they don't care about player safety
There have been concerns about the NHL Department of Player Safety's performance during the playoffs, with accusations of inconsistency and recklessness in their disciplinary actions.
Alex Pietrangelo was given a one-game suspension for slashing Leon Draisatl, a punishment that seems lenient compared to past cases that resulted in a 20-game suspension.
As pointed out by Dejan Kovacevic, the punishment given to Adam Grave may not fit the crime, and this highlights the inconsistency of George Parros.
For instance, Jordan Eberle's boarding of Andrew Cogliano, which was an intent to injure, went unpunished.
The Department of player safety needs to be accountable to both the NHLPA and the fanbase and address their lack of oversight and questionable decision-making if they hope to maintain any credibility.
