Russian Star Player Has Requested to be traded out of Washington Capitals Organization
Following their disappointing season and first playoff miss in eight years, the Washington Capitals are seeking significant changes to remain competitive during Alexander Ovechkin's tenure.
Evgeny Kuznetsov, who has requested a trade for the second time, as confirmed by NHL.com, could be a key piece in their retooling efforts.
Kuznetsov had a subpar offensive season, scoring only 12 goals and 55 points in 81 games, falling short of his $7.8 million cap hit's expected value.
However, with two years remaining on his contract, a strong offensive rebound at the start of the season could attract trade interest.
The Capitals actively pursued trades during the draft, including Kuznetsov, but failed to secure any deals.
Time is ticking for the team to make a move, with a potential trade possibly occurring closer to the trade deadline.
