This uncertainty has also led to players questioning whether they want to stay with the team or look elsewhere for their services.
One such player is senators forward Alex Debrincat. Debrincat was traded at last year's deadline to the senators from the Chicago Blackhawks as the Blackhawks were preparing to tear down their organization and rebuild it into a brand new model.
He had a good season with the Senators playing in 82 games, scoring 27 goals with 39 assists for 66 points. The only blight on his record was his plus-minus which was a - 31, however, that's no slight on him as the team defensively was poor and downright awful at times.
As of yesterday, Debrincat and his agent set a list to general manager Pierre Dorion giving a list of teams that he would like to play for trade. It's uncertain which teams are on that list however as Connor McDavid was his former linemate many would hope the Oilers would do everything they can to try to bring him into the mix.
If a settlement cannot be reached Debrincat has a $9 million qualifying offer to his name that would last for one year. Since he is currently a restricted free agent with arbitration rights, there is no guarantee he will be signed by any team.
Having him along McDavid's wing certainly augments the Oilers' offence significantly with the price tag to land him in question since he is a restricted free agent.
