In the weeks leading up to the trade deadline, there was a constant rumour coming from the San Jose Sharks that the Edmonton Oilers were very close to landing their star soon-to-be Norris trophy-winning defenseman, Erik Karlsson.

There were many mentions of money being the issue, such as San Jose wasn't willing to retain as much money as Edmonton would hope for Or that the return was higher than the Edmonton Oilers didn't want to pay.

No matter what the rumours stated, Erik Karlsson wade into his thoughts about the trade deadline and gave a very different take on what he heard and saw.

I would have a hard time believing that the sharks would be wanting to move him at the deadline since his cap hit is so large and he has had an amazing season that most teams could not afford the return during the season.

My guess would be if they were to decide to move Karlsson they would move him in the summer or at least at the draft.

Trades of his magnitude would take time and can be very complicated especially with now this new bankrolling system that other teams are doing for everyone.

The Oilers, on the other hand, landed Nashville defenseman Mattias Ekholm instead who has proven to be an excellent pick-up.
