Daniel Nugent-Bowman, who's the staff writer for the Edmonton Oilers for The Athletic waiting on his views of what is happening with the Oilers as the March 3rd trade deadline approaches.

He feels that the best upgrade for the Oilers on their defense corps would be Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun. The cost to acquire this defenseman would certainly be high with either young defenceman Philip Broberg or left-winger Dylan Holloway in the mix.

He also believes that the Oilers' primary target is Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov who will need an extension to his contract to make a deal happen.

With the trade deadline on the horizon, the Oilers have been linked to all sorts of defensemen and other players as the team continues its push to make the playoffs. Defense is and always has been the issue with the Oilers and I feel they should make an effort to acquire one or even two defensemen before the playoffs begin. With the current design, they're in they will not go far in the playoffs.

The Oilers will be at home for their next game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and game time will begin at 9:30 PM.
