When the Oilers decided to sign Jack Campbell to his $25 million over a 5-year deal last summer general manager Ken Holland was expecting a starting goaltender who would help the Oilers reach new heights and solidify them in the back end.

After having a rocky start to his season it appeared that Campbell was starting to make progress and change for the better heading toward the All-Star break. However, that doesn't seem to be the case as Campbell is continuing to spiral downward and his numbers continued to worsen.

According to the chart, Jack Campbell is currently the fourth-worst goaltender in the NHL. He has played 32 games, has won 17 games, lost 9 and has NA four overtime losses. With those stats it appears that he's doing okay however, the real numbers are the goals against average and save percentage.

Campbell currently carries 3.57 goals against average and a save percentage of .882

The rule of thumb with playoff hockey is your goaltender needs to be well over 900 save percentage to be considered a contender for the Stanley Cup due to the gruelling state that the playoffs bring to your team.

And Jack Campbell is far from that... the Oilers may need to overuse Skinner in the playoffs.

Those numbers are far from flattering and not what you are looking for going forward.

This summer will be a very interesting one for the Oilers as they will need to decide whether to continue with Campbell's contract or to find another suitor or a buyout to get them out from under this.

I guess that a buyer would be out of the question as it would be too expensive in the long run.
