The Edmonton Oilers had a light experience at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, with only three picks.

Their first pick, Beau Akey from the Barrie Colts, was selected 56th overall.

This was the fewest picks the Oilers have ever had. Nathaniel Day, a goaltender from the Flint Firebirds, and Matt Copponi were their other selections.

Day expressed gratitude for being chosen by the Oilers, while joining a talented goaltending room.

«It's so surreal,» said Day on being selected by the Edmonton Oilers. «It's been a dream of mine since I was a little kid and I am very grateful to have been selected by the Edmonton Oilers.

Described as a wildcard with untapped potential, Day's numbers may not fully reflect his abilities. Despite a strong season with Flint, his team fell in the playoffs. Day aims to guide his team to a deeper run next season and continue his development, inspired by previous CHL goaltenders drafted by the Oilers.
