Wayne Gretzky, AKA The Great One spent his whole career setting records for the NHL, which many have not been broken in a generation. From the most goals ever to the most points, Gretzky's skill and greatness put the NHL on the map, especially in the United States.

One such record was set today December 30th, 1981. The Oilers were playing the Philadelphia Flyers when Gretzky skated down the ice and scored an empty net goal for his 50th goal in 39 games.

That record still stands today, and likely for a long time. the Oilers currently are enjoying another superstar in their ranks with Connor McDavid. McDavid has been having another career year and he has shown his ability scoring 30 goals in 35 games.

Having two superstars from two different generations of hockey both playing for the Edmonton Oilers, Oilers fans certainly have been treated to these outstanding talents. Here's hoping McDavid can take them to the Stanley Cup as Gretzky did.
