They always say records are made to be broken, but many wondered would anyone be able to ever break the Great One, Wayne Gretzky's all time goal record. Well, one player has had his eye on it for a couple of years wondering if he could do it.
That player is the Great 8 of Washington Capitals, captain Alex Ovechkin. The Russian star would score 3 goals for the hat trick in a 7-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks to reach 800 NHL career goals last night (Tuesday).
As Ovi continues his achievement to become the greatest goal scorer in NHL history the Great One, Wayne Gretzky appears to be a huge Ovechkin fan and hopes Ovi can break the record. Check out his comments with Hockey Insider Greg Wyshynski:
Washington @Capitals Ted Leonsis said that Wayne Gretzky has promised to follow Alex Ovechkin around at home and on the road if Ovie comes close to breaking the goals record.
"Wayne knows that Alex is legit. They have a friendship now," he said at the NHL Board meeting.
Ovi is one goal away from tying Mr Hockey Gordie Howe who was a mentor to Wayne Gretzky, now it appears Gretzky appears to be doing the same with Ovi as continues his goal to become the new all time goal leader.
