As the best hockey player on the planet, certain expectations come with that title, and one of them happens to be winning. The Oilers' fan base has grown accustomed to having Connor McDavid in their lineup, rattling off record after record, and capturing as many trophies as possible based on personal stats.

While all these accolades are impressive and noteworthy when discussing his time as a Hall of Fame candidate, there's one stat that he cares about the most: winning as many games as possible.

Vincent Desharnais spoke to Tony Marinaro on the Sick Podcast where he explained what message had for him and the rest of the team.

«After [a game] I went to see him and I'm like, Hey man, sorry, that was a bad pass on me. Dash one is on me, sorry dude.' He turned around and said Dude, I don't care about the stats, I just want to f*cking win,' and I'm like, Alright, got it captain."

This message is music to the ears of Oil Country and Oilers' management, who also share the same desire to win. General Manager Ken Holland has decided to bring back the bulk of the team for another run at the Stanley Cup, with just over 20 players returning to the lineup.

He, along with many in the organization, believes that the team is close, and even during last year's playoffs, there was a strong sense that the Oilers could go all the way. Unfortunately, that did not happen as they ran into the Vegas Golden Knights, who dashed their chances.

While personal stats and trophies will continue to accumulate for McDavid, given that he is the best in the business, hopefully, that burning desire to win will continue to push the Oilers forward and propel them into the Stanley Cup finals.
