At 38 years old, Alexander Ovechkin is an active legend in the NHL, and a total lock for the first ballot to the hall of fame. He's got this year and two more left on his current contract, and he's been vocal about wanting to break Gretzky's all time goal record of 894.

Ovechkin had a terrible start to the year, but with 6 goals in his last 6 games, he's back on track to pass Gretzky by the end of his contract. Currently, Ovechkin has 836 career goals.

According to JFresh on Twitter, Ovechkin needs to keep scoring at his current pace of around 25 goals for the next two and a half seasons to pass Gretzky.

With the clear dip in his production at the beginning of this season, people began to doubt if Ovechkin would be able to close the gap with Gretzky at all in his final years. He's battling Father Time in pursuit of this record, and if is able to score 25 goals in his age 41 season, it'll be incredibly commendable and well-deserving of the record.

Earlier this week, Ovechkin passed Gretzky for the all time record for empty net goals, but total career goals will be much harder to achieve. Frankly, it's incredibly impressive that Ovechkin is able to get to the number he's at now in a lower scoring era of the NHL. Do you think Ovechkin will be able to pass Gretzky's record?
