Andre Tourginy shocks Canada with Connor Bedard benching in overtime
Many fans and pundits were livid and had questions for Team Canada head coach Andre Tourginy as it was clear he mishandled and mistreated star player Connor Bedard.
Team Canada lost today against Switzerland in overtime 3-2 that set Canada to play for the bronze medal. With the team battling and getting the to semis many felt Canada should in the gold medal game instead.
One glaring mistake was not using Bedard during the 3 on 3 overtime who would have been far more dangerous and would help give Canada the best chance to win. Tourginy also has shown making mistakes as he reduced Bedard's ice time dramatically which showed on the score sheet as Bedard went ice cold with long stretches which likely hurt his confidence.
He also failed to deploy his captain for the shootout and chose to put two defensemen instead.
Fans took to X.com and expressed their anger towards the coach. The common theme was certain the lack of use of his stars to help push Canada ahead.
Bedard was dominant in the first three games of the tournament as he scored three goals in the three games and was a constant threat.
With the overtime benching and the other mistakes made, it's likely he may not be the coach of the team going into next year.
