His insane season resume includes his 35 game point streak at home, which ended up being controversially broken last night in their game against the Rangers. It was broken due to an assist from Mackinnon not being logged because of a goal officially being labelled as an own goal by the Rangers' Ryan Lindgren, nullifying any assists that could happen on the goal.
As you can see in the video, after a pass from Mackinnon, Toews funnels the shot on net which ends up being poked in by Lindgren. It makes it a hard scenario to judge, as it all hinges on whether or not the hit by Lindgren was enough to quantify it as an own goal. The Avalanche filed an appeal to the NHL's department of hockey operations to see if they could get it changed to include a point for Mackinnon, but it wasn't beneficial for his streak.
Mackinnon was only 5 games short of Gretzky's 40 game point streak at home, which would have been an unreal record to match, let alone break. Mackinnon has still had a phenomenal year and has helped the Avalanche into contention for the president's trophy.
