According to reports from TVA Sports, a Quebec ball hockey player is facing charges for viciously attacking a referee with his stick.

The National Ball Hockey Players Association released a statement on the incident yesterday. A medical update on the referee and legal update on the suspect quickly followed.

»A tragedy happened yesterday. A referee who expelled a player from the match was attacked by the offending player. He received a stick blow to the chest followed by a stick blow (with both hands) directly to the face! The referee is seriously injured.»

The TVA Sports report detailed that a verbal altercation started between the player and referee, before the player escalated the incident by striking the referee in the head multiple times with his hockey stick. The 39 year old referee suffered a skull fracture, jaw fracture, several broken teeth, and a concussion.

The suspect has been approached by authorities and charged, but no further details have been reported at this time. The NBHPA has announced a lifetime ban for the offending player.

Hopefully, the referee can fully recover from these significant injuries, and this player faces proper justice for this senseless and brutal attack.
