The Oilers had an incredible season, overcoming their terrible start and getting as close to winning the Stanley Cup as a team could. Usually a team will have lots of big losses after a Cup Finals run, but the Oilers defied everyone's expectations by only improving from their amazing season last year. Even former coaches are taking notice to how much better the Oilers could be this year either their amazing offseason moves.
Bruce Boudreau gives his respect to the Oilers and talks about how great the Oilers' offseason was. It's a great point that Edmonton had every reason to stay out and just re-sign all their guys, and not be aggressive on the free agency.
That's most likely what Ken Holland would have done, but in the summer of Jeff Jackson everything was different. The Oilers were definitely buyers over the free agency period, going out and getting lots of difference makers to add an even higher ceiling to the already amazing Edmonton offence.
Jackson found a way to maximize the use of the minimal cap space the Oilers had to bring in guys who can surely make an impact on the wing. Even Oilers players had to tip the cap to Jackson for continuing to push this team to be more competitive when they're already in one of the best spots in the league.
Everyone knows the Oilers got better and it makes Oilers fans even more excited for the season to come. Even former coaches are complimenting the Oilers on their path back to the Stanley Cup Finals and it only adds fuel to the fire for the players to compete at the highest level they can.
