Veteran general manager Lou Lamoriello of the New York Islanders is preparing his team to move on from two veteran players who have been with the organization for several years.

According to Ethan Sears of the New York Post, who had a conversation with Lamoriello has stated that he will be probably moving on from Cal Clutterbuck and Matt Martin as both players are currently unrestricted free agents. Both players have played for the Islanders for many years and have become the faces of the team.

«We'll probably be moving on,» Lamoriello told The Post. «That isn't saying things can't change. We're talking about two veterans, two quality individuals. Two team leaders and two real good hockey players, so we'll have to see how things come about. But we haven't changed our thought process today any different than the last time we spoke.»

With both men on their way out of the organization, Lamoriello has brought in Anthony Duclair and signed a Russian winger named maxim Tsyplakov who played in the KHL. It seems that Lamoriello would like to add more speed to his team and put more pucks in the net which was a major issue last season especially in the bottom 6.

The Islanders are spot on at $88 million for cap space and being one contract short, it's likely a little maneuvering will be done to accommodate that extra contract. In the meantime, Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck will likely be looking for their new homes.
