Johnston added that the NHLPA did not end up filing a grievance for Perry's contract. It was reported earlier this season by Frank Seravalli that the NHLPA was worried about the precedent that could be set if this contract termination was allowed to stand given the fact that Perry didn't really do anything wrong.
Still to this day, the incident that led to Perry's termination is not publicly known. Considering the facts that no legal action took place, and Perry quickly sought help to get reinstated to the NHL, the incident didn't seem like anything more than a personal mistake.
Johnston's report on the resolution between the NHL and Player's Association is incredibly vague, but hopefully it's something along the lines of blocking a precedent to be set for a measure as extreme as contract termination. We may never know what truly happened in this situation, but it's now officially been put to bed by the NHL, and Corey Perry is back to being an impact player with the Edmonton Oilers.
