BREAKING: Winnipeg Jets coach leaving the team indefinitely
Moments ago, the Winnipeg Jets released a statement announcing that their head coach Rick Bowness will be absent from the team for a while to undergo a minor medical procedure.
The Winnipeg Jets announced today that head coach Rick Bowness will not be on the bench for tonight's game due to a minor medical procedure. As a result, he has returned to Winnipeg for treatment. He will return to the team once his condition improves.
As the Jets travel tonight to a road game in New York, Bowness will stay behind in Winnipeg. It's very encouraging to hear that this is only a minor procedure. Based on the tone of the statement, it feels like Bowness might not be away from the team for long. In his absence, assistant coach Scott Arniel will serve as the team's interim head coach. The team provided no timeline for return for Bowness.
Bowness will now be the second head coach away from his team at this time, as Martin St. Louis also has recently left the Canadiens to attend to a family issue regarding his son.
For both St. Louis and Bowness, hockey fans everywhere are sending their well wishes. They're two great NHL coaches and crucial to their team's success, so hopefully, all is well with both and they could return soon.
