During the Vancouver Canucks year end media availability, Brock Boeser explained a shot block in game 1 caused his blood clotting issue.

Surprisingly, the issue went undetected for nearly the entirety of the series until the end of Game 6. Boeser must've blocked a nasty shot which caused a bruise and a complication with internal bleeding that caused the blood clot issue.

It was a serious blow to the Canucks to lose Boeser for a Game 7, but obviously the team had to prioritize the long term health of Boeser over anything else. The timeline for Boeser to return to even practicing is unclear, but the offseason will provide him some significant time to heal up. Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen was sidelined with a blood clot issue in November of 2023, and was unable to return to play until early March of 2024 - a recovery timeline of about 4 months.

Additionally, Elias Pettersson revealed in his press availability that he'd been playing through a significant knee injury since January, which may explain his drop off in production in the back half of the year and in the playoffs.

Without Thatcher Demko, Brock Boeser, and an injured Elias Pettersson, the Canucks were facing significant disadvantages against the Oilers, and still managed to push the series to a one-goal game 7. The Canucks entire team proved themselves to be a much improved team this year, and healthy next year, they could be a problem in the playoffs.
