Calgary Flames renounce rights to recent high draft pick
Moments ago, the Calgary Flames announced that they've renounced the rights to their second round draft pick in 2022, Topi Ronni.
The decision comes just after Ronni had been found guilty and received a one-year suspended sentence from a district court in his home country of Finland. Ronni was facing charges of s***al violence from when he was 17 years old.
Ronni is a 6'2 centreman that played for Tappara Tampere in SM-Liiga for the last two seasons, only recording 3 goals and 7 points in that time. He represented Finland at the World Juniors Tournament last year as well. When Ronni received the summons for court he took a leave of absence, and with the final ruling, it's unlikely he's allowed back to Liiga, and his NHL pathway is rightfully completely closed.
