Just minutes ago it was announced that the Columbus Blue Jackets have filled their spot of President of Hockey Operations with ex-Hurricanes GM Don Waddell.
This is an amazing move for Columbus, as they've had a streak of terrible hirings for the franchise. Don Waddell was recently given the ability to speak with new teams and it did not take long for him to find a new place.
It's great for Columbus to bring someone on who has experience, as Waddell was fantastic in Carolina. He'll now be given a much bigger job, as he has to run everything in the franchise for the time being.
Waddell has the ability to hire someone in as their GM if he only wants to act as president, but his record as GM indicates that he may decide to take it on himself. He has done many things for Carolina to turn them into a perennial contender, which is exactly what the Blue Jackets need to dig out of their hole.
We'll see how this hiring turns out for the franchise, but all indications seem positive as of now. Waddell is a man who knows what it takes to run a franchise and wanted the biggest role he could be given, and it's worked out for him so far.
