Connor McDavid was set to have his Bachelor Party just days after Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, but he had to cancel it.

In a new interview with the Athletic, McDavid detailed the incredibly tough moments that came after losing the Stanley Cup and how it greatly affected his personal life. McDavid and some Oilers had planned a European tour for an extravagant Bachelor's Party just two days after Game 7, but they simply were in no mood for a party. McDavid cancelled the trip, and the Oilers spent some time apart at home reflecting on the season.

»It was a bit of a weird time. In a way, it was nice to decompress, but at the same time it was a little bit strange. You're supposed to be celebrating and having a good time, but at the same time it was not that way.»

After a week of mourning the Stanley Cup loss, McDavid's close friends organized a new Bachelor Party in the Caribbean. Afterwards, McDavid spent most of his offseason time at the cottage, relaxing and training individually before the wedding.

According to the interview, McDavid's wedding on July 27th was a major factor in picking up his spirit and his teammates as well. The Oilers teammates got back together, many for the first time since the loss. Shortly afterwards, groups began reforming for offseason training, once again with the goal of the Stanley Cup.

It's gut wrenching to hear just how much the players, and particularly McDavid, felt the pain of losing in Game 7 of the Cup Final. In Amazon's recent behind the scenes documentary, McDavid was seen sobbing in the locker room after the loss. It was truly heartbreaking to lose out on a lifelong dream while being so close to the goal, so much that it literally affected his marriage plans.

However, being so close to the ultimate goal of the Stanley Cup will only motivate McDavid and the Oilers to come back better than ever. The puck drops on the Oilers regular season this Wednesday against the Winnipeg Jets,, the beginning of a long campaign back to playing hockey in June.
