Six days ago, the St. Louis Blues signed Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway of the Edmonton Oilers to offer sheet contracts, and today it appeared the Oilers have made a decision.

Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway have been removed from the Edmonton Oilers official roster listed online. Both players with listed on the roster yesterday.

This caused a great amount of commotion across hockey fans eager to hear the outcome of the offer sheets, but upon closer look, the NHL began to remove all RFAs from their league rosters today. Still, the Oilers only have one day left to match the contracts, and it's beginning to look more like they won't.

Both restricted free agents signed two year contracts, with Philip Broberg at $4.58M and Dylan Holloway at $2.29 - much more than the Oilers had intended to pay them. Over the last few days, the Oilers made a number of moves to give themselves more cap flexibility, but also acquired adequate replacements for both young players.

Vasily Podkolzin could now slot into the Oilers bottom six, and Ty Emberson seems to be an underrated player with a history of success with Kris Knoblauch. If the Oilers allow both RFAs to walk, they'll receive a second round and third round draft pick in compensation from St. Louis.

If the Oilers allow both RFAs to leave and place Evander Kane on the LTIR to begin the year, they'll be just under the salary cap with a few extras on the roster. Oilers insider Jason Gregor provided a look at the potential opening night roster.

Losing Holloway and Broberg may be tough in future years, but both players decided to leave for more money and opportunity elsewhere. The Oilers will obviously still be a cup contender without them, but in a few years, it may be nice to still have them around. Oilers fans will certainly be watching their careers with great interest now that they appear to be on the way out.
