Bowman joined the Chicago Blackhawks in 2001, and was named as General Manager of the team in 2009. He guided the team to three Stanley Cups, earning himself a reputation as one of the best Managers in the NHL. In 2021, when allegations of abuse came to light from former player Kyle Beach, Bowman resigned from the Blackhawks and was banned from the league for his inaction on the claims.
Insiders are stressing the fact that Bowman has made significant effort to better himself and citing his winning pedigree with the Blackhawks being a good fit for the Oilers.
However, fans have been extremely vocal in their disapproval of Bowman even being reinstated into the NHL - let alone being GM of their team. Working in the NHL shouldn't be just given after such a brutal lack of personal judgment at the highest level. Not only that, but many fans are actually doubtful of Bowman's moves with the Blackhawks.
Jeff Jackson has made incredible moves so far as the President of the Oilers, so hopefully he does not commit to such a confusing and controversial hire like Stan Bowman. Simply put, there are plenty of better and equally qualified candidates who have been in the NHL more recently, and don't have the history that Bowman has.
