Elias Lindholm is set to hit the open market in the coming weeks, but he may have already cost himself millions by declining contracts from the Flames and Canucks.

According to recent reports, Lindholm has declined an 8 year contract from the Flames for near $9M, and a 7 year contract from the Canucks for $7M.

Lindholm had a very successful playoffs, but has been declining in recent years from his peak of a point per game season in 2021-22. To be declining long term deals of up to $9M, Lindholm must be looking for something astronomical in free agency - or perhaps wants to leave Canada. It's his right, but it's hard to believe Lindholm will get an offer greater than he's already received.

Interestingly, Elias Lindholm is represented by Craig Oster. His previous agent was Peter Wallen.

John Klingberg is also represented by Craig Oster, having parted ways with Wallen after bungling the 2022 offseason/extension talks.

Lindholm may be missing out on millions of dollars from these offers, just like what happened to John Klingberg in recent years - and they happen to have the same agents. Safe to say, both agents may be on the hot seat.

He is one of the top available free agent center this season, but any contending team that the 29 year old Lindholm would want to commit to won't be able to accommodate him at a salary above $9M. It's very possible that the Calgary Flames would've been the highest bidder for Lindholm the entire time.
