Erik Karlsson is one of the most gifted offensive defenceman of this generation, and his secret ingredient to the success may be a disgusting pre-game meal.

In a recent video surfacing online, the Penguins star defenceman shared his abomination of a pasta meal for before games. He eats Pasta with Alfredo and meat sauce, raw red onion, hot sauce, and ketchup.

Now 34 years old, Karlsson is still one of the league's most elite defenceman. He won the Norris Trophy just two years ago when he had 101 points on a brutal San Jose Sharks team, but dropped down to just 56 points with the Pittsburgh Penguins this year. Karlsson was hoped to be the blockbuster move needed to get the Penguins back to the playoffs, but now it looks like they're headed toward a rebuild again, there's been rumours that Karlsson could be traded again.

Karlsson has 3 years remaining on his contract worth $11.5M each season, but Pittsburgh has him for a reduced value after the Sharks trade. He was rumoured to be involved in a trade that would send him back to the Ottawa Senators, but Karlsson shut it down extremely quickly, and noted the craziness of the Canadian media.

Regardless of where he plays out the final stages of his career, Karlsson is a player who will be a Hall of Fame candidate. He doesn't have a Stanley Cup, but he has three Norris Trophies and 817 points in 1002 career games. He's clearly one of best offensive defenceman of this era in the NHL, and if this disgusting pre-game meal helps him, so be it.
