In Evander Kane's rookie season, he was a total wrecking ball and unafraid of any opponent - including infamous NHL goon Matt Cooke.

On April 10, 2004, Evander Kane on the Atlanta Thrashers squared off with Matt Cooke, and knocked out the goon with one punch.

In seconds, Kane connected with the first punch and Cooke went down immediately, laying on his back while the referees called the trainers. Cooke had many enemies in his time in the NHL, but Evander Kane recently revealed that the Boston Bruins sent him a gift basket for the knockout.

Evander Kane recalls beating Matt Cooke by knockout in fight

On an episode of the Pardon My Take podcast, Kane said he loved to watch the fight and that the Bruins sent the gift basket for what Cooke did to Marc Savard.

»He was a dirty, dirty player. When it happened I mean, I probably watched it, I'm not even over-exaggerating, 300 times. And then I got, I actually got a gift basket from the Boston Bruins later that year in the offseason because of what he did to Marc Savard.»

Years ago, Matt Cooke threw a brutal hit at Marc Savard who was nowhere near the puck, which left Savard concussed for months and severely affected his career. It's one of many hits across Cooke's career that made him one of the most despised NHL players in recent history.

It's hilarious to hear Kane received a gift basket for the knockout, and that he loves to replay the memory of beating up a goon like Cooke. It's part of what makes Kane one of the best pests in the game - he's always invested when he's in the lineup.
